5 Ways You May Be Restricting Yourself From Being At Your Best.

1. Saying I can’t:

Who said you can’t? I didn’t. However you did, and you will never find out if you can if you automatically presume, that what lies ahead of you is too difficult.

Saying you can’t too often leads to a destructive pattern of thought of narrow-mindedness. Something we all need to avoid. Young people especially need to believe in ourselves more and work harder for the things that we want.

In today’s society, we live in a world of global competition, and it is becoming harder to attain a job interview, work experience or even have your work acknowledged.

Therefore saying you can’t is only going to put you at the back of the line.

If you keep an open mind to everything, even if you are not sure, you might discover your new talent or passion.

The more you are open to things the more likely you are to grow from the experiences you have endorsed, good or bad because bad experiences are still important learning curves.

So be bold, be brave and be daring as the only way to grow is to push outside your comfort zone and overcome your fears.

2. If you do not ask, you will not get:

‘If you do not ask, you will not get’ – a brutally true statement

Even though asking for help, advice or opportunities sometimes may be awkward or uncomfortable, it is something we all have to do from time to time in order to gain the answers we need. We need help from other people, especially those who are more experienced than us to be successful, therefore do not shy away from making yourself vocal.

In fact, you will be surprised by how many people would be pleased that you have asked them a question; it means you value their knowledge!

Also, being vocal goes hand in hand with confidence. If we are confident within ourselves we are more likely to project our opinions and concerns with others. Therefore working on yourself and knowing who you are and what you want is a good place to start.

3. The ‘I’ll do it later’ mindset:

No, do it now. Unless you know exactly when later is, do not say you will do it later, because you probably won’t.

It is possible to make time for every aspect of your life such as work, study, social life etc but you have to plan it because failing to plan is a plan to fail. Always be two steps ahead and you can juggle anything and everything.

4. Caring way too much:

When I say this, I do not mean not caring about people because we should all care about each other, and if more of us gave up some of our selfish habits then the world would be a much more pleasant place.

However, what I do mean is do not overly care about what people think, even to a certain extent your friends and family because they are not living your life.

If you want to be a film director then go for it, if you want to be a pianist then I am listening! Friends and family are there to advise you on how you should live, not to control it. They, in fact, have their own lives to live. So even though friends and family want the best for you, make sure you always make the last decision when it comes to your life and your goals.

It doesn’t matter if no one around you believes in them, as long as you yourself do, then that is the ONLY thing that truly matters. In addition, do not care about what strangers think either. Do what is necessary at that given moment to better your future. How many times have you seen a stranger more than once?

5. Thinking everything has to be perfect:

You, I and the world are not perfect, so stop beating yourself up!

We all have our own faults and flaws that make us uniquely imperfect.

Therefore if you only strive for perfection then you will never be satisfied, which inevitably mean you will always be unhappy.

The perception of a perfectionist will always be tainted as they will always see the world as half empty instead of half full. They will always wish for what they could have rather than appreciate what they do have. They will always feel incomplete.

So if you want to live a complete life then do not aim for perfection, aim for the very best from yourself that you know you are capable of.

Because living a perfect life does not exist but living your BEST life does.
